Kimbers – Coming Back!

by | Apr 15, 2025

Sometime in December, we stopped shipping Kimber stocks. We paused for a few reasons, but the primary one was the feel around the horns transitioning to the backstrap.

The Kimber grip frame is a complex shape. It has multiple planes, significant shape variation, and some unusual features around the horns. Our first-generation grips were solid, but they suffered from a high recoil impulse.

Another reason for the redesign was that the distance from the rear of the cylinder to the back of our speed reload cut wasn’t long enough to smoothly accommodate many speed reloaders, especially with .357 Magnum, which the stainless steel Kimbers are chambered for.

We paused shipping orders and set the Kimbers out of stock. They’ve been out of stock for nearly five months—until tomorrow, when we’ll set them live.

The new Kimber stocks feature a concealed backstrap, a larger speed reload cut, and a thinner grip profile. They add minimal overall length compared to our first generation but are thinner.

Getting the fit right took effort, but we’re pleased to announce that we’ve nailed it, and they fit very nicely.

We’ve test-fired these side by side with our first-version stocks and are thrilled with how shootable this version is.

We’ll be releasing our standard three configurations: hooked, standard, and full set.

  • The “hooked” option includes two grip panels (left and right), one featuring our signature Hamre Hook.
  • The “standard” option includes two grip panels (left and right), neither with the Hamre Hook.
  • The “full set” comprises three panels: standard left and right panels, plus one hooked panel. This allows you to carry with or without a hook.

Due to the small size of the Kimber’s grip frame relative to the grip itself, these grips require a lot of material, especially with the added backstrap. They also take longer to produce. For these reasons, they are slightly more expensive than the first version.
